PINSTRIPERS TO BRING COLOR TO 2012 DALLAS AUTORAMA AND BENEFIT THE TEXAS SCOTTISH RITE HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN
DALLAS – Jan. 17, 2012 - The Pinstriper Panel Jam & Charity Auction will take center stage during the 52nd annual O'Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama® of Dallas at the Dallas Market Hall, from Friday, Feb. 17, through Sunday, Feb. 19. Three generations of renowned pinstripers will amaze the crowd with their talents as they create works of art for charity. Visitors at the show will also experience a riveting collection of customized vehicles, burnout competitions, the legendary Bigfoot Monster Truck Car Crush, as well as a meet-and-greet with celebrities.
Pinstriping refers to the art of using thin lines of paint to decorate a surface or create special graphics; it is most commonly found on the body of a car or motorcycle. Many consider this hobby a tradition since the technique of pinstriping is often passed down from generation to generation.
"The Pinstriper Panel Jam & Charity Auction will be one of the favorite events among all ages," said Bob Larivee Jr., CEO of Championship Auto Show Inc. "While pinstriping is an unfamiliar art form to some, those who master it can transform any ordinary vehicle or motorcycle into a piece of art. This addition to the 2012 show will take entertainment to a whole new level while supporting a great cause"
A group of children from the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital are scheduled to get a sneak peek of the automobiles and meet the pinstriping team prior to the opening of the show. Once doors open to the public, pinstripers will work their magic on items to be included in the charity auction. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, one of the nation's leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders, such as dyslexia.
"We'll be out in full force at the AutoRama with pinstripers from multiple generations who are always looking for opportunities to show off their skills," said Brad Meredith, a pinstriper at Carl's Custom Cars and the organizer of the artist portion of the program. "Most pinstripers picked up the hobby from a parent or a friend and have been painting everything from car panels to knickknacks ever since. Our team welcomes everyone to stop by and have small personal items pinstriped for themselves and leave with their own AutoRama souvenir."
Auctions will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., as well as on Sunday at 2 p.m. Items scheduled to be auctioned include a Radio Flyer wagon, bowling pins and an electric scooter.
"AutoRama has a tradition of finding new ways to bring families together through the custom car hobby," added Larivee. "The art of pinstriping demonstrates that the hobby has a strong future as it continues to be embraced by new generations."
